1. عسى فرج من المولى القريب

    يداركني به الله عن قريب

    May relief come from the Lord who is near,

    And may God soon come to my aid with it,

  2. ويشرح صدري المشحون ضيقا

    بمحض الجود والفضل الرحيب

    And open my breast, so full of anguish,

    Through pure generosity and boundless grace.

  3. وتنزاح الهموم وكل كرب

    ويأتي الفتح في لطف عجيب

    And may worries and every affliction recede,

    And deliverance come with wondrous gentleness.

  4. عسى الوهاب يعطيني رجائي

    وأزيد منه من رب مجيب

    May the Bestower grant me what I hope for,

    And more than that, from a Lord who answers.

  5. فإن الله ذوفضل قدير

    فكم سلى عن القلب الكئيب

    For God possesses bounty and is all-powerful;

    How often He has soothed the sorrowful heart!

  6. فيا أملي ومأمولي ومالي

    وياذخري وفخري يا نصيبي

    So, O my hope, my hoped-for One, and my wealth,

    And my treasure and my pride, O my portion,

  7. ويارباه ياغوثاه يامن

    إليه مشتكائي مع نحيبي

    And O my Lord, O my succor, O You

    To whom I bring my complaint with my sobbing:

  8. تداركني تداركني تدارك

    تداركني تداركني حبيبي

    Come to my aid, come to my aid—come to the rescue!

    Come to my aid, come to my aid, my Beloved!

  9. فقد ضاق الخناق وضقت ذرعا

    ومالي غير جودك من طبيب

    For the noose has tightened, and I can bear no more,

    And I have no physician other than Your generosity.

  10. فهب لي ثم هب لي ثم هب لي

    وبرد مابقلبي من لهيب

    So grant me, then grant me, then grant me,

    And cool the flame within my heart.

  11. ولي أمل ولي رجوى عظيم

    وماربي تعالى بالمخيب

    I have hope, and I have great expectation,

    And my Lord, exalted is He, does not disappoint.

  12. تعالى الله خلاق البرايا

    تعالى الله عن قول الكذوب

    Exalted is God, the Creator of all beings;

    Exalted is God above the liar's words.

  13. فكم جادوكم فادو أعطى

    وكم غطى على عيب المعيب

    How often He has been generous; how often He has bestowed bounty and given!

    And how often He has concealed the flaw of one who is flawed!

  14. فإلى غير عفوك من مجير

    ومالي غير جودك من مجيب

    Then to whom, besides Your pardon, can I turn for protection?

    And I have none who answers me other than Your generosity.

  15. فعاملني بفضلك في شؤوني

    وقابلني بغفران الذنوب

    So treat me with Your grace in my affairs,

    And receive me with forgiveness of sins.

  16. وجد يا حي يا قيوم ياالله

    على عبدك بتفريج الكروب

    And be generous, O Ever-Living, O Sustainer, O God,

    To Your servant, by relieving his afflictions.

  17. فأنت المرتجى في كل حال

    اليك الملتجا عند الشغوب

    For You are the One hoped in under every circumstance;

    To You is the recourse in times of turmoil.

  18. عسى فرج عسى فرج قريب

    عسى فرج قريب من قريب

    May there be relief; may relief be near!

    May relief be near, from the Near One.

  19. به الإسلام يمسي في أمان

    وفي أمن وفي يمن عجيب

    Through it, Islam may dwell in safety,

    And in security and in wondrous good fortune.

  20. وتنزاح المظالم والمخاوف

    مع العدوان والبغي الشغيب

    And may injustices and fears recede,

    Together with aggression and tumultuous oppression.

  21. وحكم الشرع نافذ في البرايا

    وحكم الجبت ماله من نصيب

    And may sacred law hold sway among creation,

    While the rule of false idols has no share.

  22. ويمسي كل مسلم في سرور

    وفي شكر على نعم الرقيب

    And may every Muslim dwell in joy,

    And in gratitude for the blessings of the Watchful One.

  23. وما ذاك على الله عزيز

    وما ذاك من الله بالغريب

    That is not difficult for God,

    Nor is that unusual for God.

  24. تعالى الله عن بخل وعجز

    وجل الله عن كل العيوب

    God is exalted above stinginess and inability,

    And God is far above every flaw.

  25. سألتك بالنبي طه محمد

    وكل الانبيا تكفي شغوبي

    I ask You by the Prophet Ta-Ha, Muhammad,

    And all the prophets: ward off my troubles,

  26. وبالأصحاب أجمعهم وآل

    وكل الأوليا أهل القلوب

    And by the Companions, all of them, and the family,

    And all the saints, people of the heart,

  27. بزين العابدين مع محمد

    وجعفر مع على مط كروبي

    By Zayn al-Abidin, with Muhammad,

    And Ja'far, with Ali: remove my afflictions,

  28. محمد بن علي ثم بعيسى

    باحمد لا تدعني للخطوب

    Muhammad ibn Ali, then by Isa,

    By Ahmad: do not abandon me to calamities,

  29. بعبدالله مع علوي وبصري

    جديد مع محمد نق جيبي

    By Abdullah, with Alawi and Basri,

    Jadid, with Muhammad: purify my bosom,

  30. بعلوي مع علي مع محمد

    وأولاده باعلوي الأديب

    By Alawi, with Ali, with Muhammad,

    And his children, Ba-Alawi the cultured,

  31. بنور الدين مع نجله محمد

    وسقاف العلا أطفىء لهيبي

    By Nur al-Din, with his son Muhammad,

    And Saqqaf of the heights: extinguish my flame,

  32. وأولاده جميعهم وأولاد

    أبي بكر تداركني حبيبي

    And his children, all of them, and the children

    Of Abu Bakr: come to my aid, my Beloved,

  33. بأولاد العفيف مع وجيه

    واخوته بهم وفر نصيبي

    By al-Afif's children, with Wajih,

    And his brothers: through them, increase my portion,

  34. بصاحب روغة وبابن بصرى

    بحداد القلوب أصلح قليبي

    By the master of Rawghah, and by Ibn Busra,

    By Haddad, the smith of hearts, mend my little heart,

  35. بصاحب وادعيديد باحمد

    بباجحدب دعوه كن طبيبي

    By the master of Wadi Aydid, by Ahmad,

    By Ba-Jahdab—'call him' [unclear wording]—be my physician,

  36. وبالشيخ ابن سالم مع بنيه

    وبالحبشي وبالجيلي المنيب

    And by Shaykh Ibn Salim, with his sons,

    And by al-Habashi and al-Jili, the penitent,

  37. بحدي طاهر طهر فؤادي

    من الأرجاس من شك وريب

    By my grandfather Tahir [uncertain reading], purify my heart

    Of defilements, of doubt and misgiving,

  38. بغزال العلوم بشافعي

    وبالشاذلي ربي اغفر ذنوبي

    By the gazelle of the sciences, by al-Shafi'i,

    And by al-Shadhili: my Lord, forgive my sins,

  39. بسعدون بسالم بن فضل

    علي بن محمد القطب الخطيب

    By Sa'dun, by Salim ibn Fadl,

    Ali ibn Muhammad, the spiritual pole, the preacher,

  40. بكل الصالحين بكل مؤمن

    بكتبك بالملائك بالكروب

    By all the righteous, by every believer,

    By Your books, by the angels, by afflictions.

  41. بهم ندعوك يا مولى الموالي

    بهم ندعوك يا أحسن مجيب

    Through them we call upon You, O Lord of lords;

    Through them we call upon You, O best Answerer.

  42. باحسانك بغفرانك ومنك

    بافضلك وبالجود الرحيب

    By Your kindness, by Your forgiveness, and Your favor,

    By Your grace and boundless generosity,

  43. نهب لي ما أرجيه وأزيد

    وتدركني بتفريج الكروب

    Grant me what I hope for, and more [uncertain opening word],

    And come to my aid by relieving my afflictions.

  44. وكن لي سيدي في كل حال

    ولارب تدعني للخطوب

    And be there for me, my Master, in every circumstance,

    And, Lord, do not abandon me to calamities.

  45. ووفقني لما يرضيك عني

    وألهمني لشركالاك دوبي

    And enable me to do what makes You pleased with me,

    And inspire me to make thanking Your blessings my constant practice [unclear wording].

  46. وياحنان يامنان يامن

    له الإحسان في حال الجدوب

    And O Tender One, O Bestower, O You

    Whose kindness is there in times of drought,

  47. ويارحمن يا ذا الشان سالك

    غياثا عاجلايطفي لهيبي

    And O Most Merciful, O Possessor of Majesty, I ask You

    For swift succor that extinguishes my flame.

  48. وأختم لي بخير الختم ان حا

    ن حين الحين في لطف عجيب

    And grant me the best of endings, if there comes—

    —the hour of death, with wondrous gentleness.

  49. وأدخلنا جناك في أمان

    بلا خوف ولا أمر تعيب

    And admit us to Your gardens [uncertain reading] in safety,

    Without fear, or anything You find blameworthy,

  50. ولا فزع ولا جزع وضر

    ولا بلوى ولا هم شغيب

    Without terror, anguish, or harm,

    Without trial or troublesome sorrow.

  51. وسلمنا من النيران واحفظ

    لنا الإيمان واغفر كل حوب

    And save us from the fires, and preserve

    Our faith for us, and forgive every sin.

  52. فعمري قد تقضى في شرور

    وفي زور وفي كسب الذنوب

    For my life has been spent in evils,

    And in falsehood and in earning sins,

  53. وفي نسيان للمولى تعالى

    وللاخرى وللموت المهيب

    And in forgetfulness of the Lord, exalted is He,

    And of the hereafter and awesome death.

  54. ولكن رحمة الله تسعني

    وعفوالله أعظم من عيوبي

    And yet God's mercy embraces me,

    And God's pardon is greater than my faults.

  55. وصلى الله ربي كل حين

    وسلم ما جرت ريح الجنوب

    And may God, my Lord, bestow blessings at every moment,

    And peace, as long as the south wind blows,

  56. على طه المشفع في البرايا

    وآله والصحاب أهل القلوب

    Upon Ta-Ha, whose intercession for creation is accepted,

    And his family and the Companions, people of the heart,

  57. وكل التابعين وكل مؤمن

    عدد ذر الرمال مع الحبوب

    And all the Followers and every believer,

    As numerous as the particles of sand, together with the seeds,

  58. وما ناداك ذوكرب فقال

    عسى فرج من المولى القريب

    And whenever one in distress calls upon You and says:

    May relief come from the Lord who is near.
