ألا يا صاحبي قد ضاق صدري

بما في الوقت من أحوال تجري

Listen, my friend: my breast has grown tight

Oh my friend, my chest is tight

Because of the circumstances unfolding in these times,

With what is happening in these times

وأعمال وأقوال وأشيا

وأعمال وأقوال وأشيا

علمت بها وأشيا لست أدري

علمت بها وأشيا لست أدري

And deeds, and words, and things

Deeds, words, and things

I have learned of, and things I do not know.

I've come to know, and things I do not know

أمور تجعل العقلا حيارى

أمور تجعل العقلا حيارى

سكارى غائبين بغير خمر

سكارى غائبين بغير خمر

Matters that leave the wise bewildered,

Matters that leave reason confused

Drunk and oblivious, without wine.

Intoxicated without wine

فخذ عنهم ومل منهم إلى من

فخذ عنهم ومل منهم إلى من

له الشان العظيم وكل قهر

له الشان العظيم وكل قهر

So take from them, and turn away from them toward the One

So turn away from them and flee

Who possesses great majesty and all subduing power:

To the One with great eminence and power

إله الخلق وهاب العطايا

إله الخلق وهاب العطايا

عظيم الفضل مصلح كل أمر

عظيم الفضل مصلح كل أمر

The God of creation, the bountiful giver of gifts,

God of creation, giver of gifts

Great in bounty, setting every matter right.

Great in bounty, mender of all affairs

إلهي خالقي ربي غياثي

إلهي خالقي ربي غياثي

أنيسي حين أوضع وسط قبري

أنيسي حين أوضع وسط قبري

My God, my Creator, my Lord, my succor,

My God, my Creator, my Lord, my savior

My companion when I am laid within my grave.

My friend when I'm laid in the grave

رفعت إليه حاجاتي وفقري

رفعت إليه حاجاتي وفقري

وشكواي وأحوالي وضري

وشكواي وأحوالي وضري

I have raised to Him my needs and my poverty,

I've raised my needs and poverty to Him

And my complaint, my circumstances, and my affliction.

And complained of my state and harm

وأرجو خالقي يمنن علىّ

وأرجو خالقي يمنن علىّ

بمطلوبي بمحياي وحشري

بمطلوبي بمحياي وحشري

And I hope my Creator will favor me

And I hope my Creator will favor me

With what I seek, in my life and at my resurrection.

With my wants, my life, and my resurrection

إلهي لا تخيبني فإني

إلهي لا تخيبني فإني

مقر أنني ضيعت عمري

مقر أنني ضيعت عمري

My God, do not disappoint me, for I

My God, do not disappoint me, for I admit

Confess that I have squandered my life

I have wasted my life

ياشيا كلها لعب ولهو

ياشيا كلها لعب ولهو

وزور موجبات كل خسر

وزور موجبات كل خسر

On things that are all play and diversion,

On vain play and amusement

And falsehood, bringing every loss.

That caused every loss

فعفوا ثم عفوا ثم عفوا

فعفوا ثم عفوا ثم عفوا

وإحسانا وصفحا عن مقر

وإحسانا وصفحا عن مقر

So grant pardon, then pardon, then pardon,

So pardon, and pardon, and pardon

And kindness, and forgiveness for one who confesses.

And kindness, and clemency for the penitent

وهب لي توبة من كل ذنب

وهب لي توبة من كل ذنب

بها يصلح فؤادي وشرح صدري

بها يصلح فؤادي وشرح صدري

And grant me repentance from every sin,

Grant me repentance from every sin

Through which my heart is set right and my breast expanded.

That will mend my heart and expand my chest

وحسن لي الخاتمه وأهل ودّي

وحسن لي الخاتمه وأهل ودّي

وكل المسلمين بكل قطر

وكل المسلمين بكل قطر

And grant a good end to me and those dear to me,

And bless my ending and my loved ones

And all Muslims in every land,

And all the Muslims in every land

بجاه المصطفى خير البرايا

بجاه المصطفى خير البرايا

وأشكرهم وأدمغهم لكفر

وأشكرهم وأدمغهم لكفر

By the rank of the Chosen One, the best of creation,

For the sake of the Chosen One, best of creations

And the most grateful of them, and their mightiest vanquisher of unbelief.

I thank and praise Him for disbelief

O God, send blessings upon him, then grant him peace,

Upon him God pray and peace

As often as a wind blows and villages lament.
