أعرف الوقت والزمان لتسلم

لا تكن غر بالزمان فتندم

لا تكن غر بالزمان فتندم

Know the time and the age, so that you may be safe.

I know the time and era to submit

Do not be deceived by the times, lest you regret it.

Do not be fooled by the era and regret

فإذا قد رأيت شحا مطاعا

فإذا قد رأيت شحا مطاعا

وهوى متبع ودنيا تعظم

وهوى متبع ودنيا تعظم

And when you see avarice obeyed,

When you see greed obeyed

and desire followed, and worldly life exalted,

And desires followed and the world magnified

ورأيت اعتجاب كل برأيه

ورأيت اعتجاب كل برأيه

فاعتزل وانفرد وصه لا تكلم

فاعتزل وانفرد وصه لا تكلم

and see everyone admiring his own opinion,

And you see everyone stubborn in their opinion

then withdraw, keep to yourself, and be silent—do not speak.

Then withdraw, be alone, and be silent do not speak

وعليك بخاصتك فاحطهم

وعليك بخاصتك فاحطهم

ودع العامة كذا جاء فافهم

ودع العامة كذا جاء فافهم

And attend to your close circle, and safeguard them.

Rely on your confidants so protect them

And leave the common people alone; thus it has been conveyed, so understand.

And leave the public as it came so understand

إن في الوقت والزمان غرايب

إن في الوقت والزمان غرايب

إن نكن عاقلا بها نتعلم

إن نكن عاقلا بها نتعلم

Indeed, the time and the age hold strange things;

Indeed in time and era are wonders

if we are wise, we learn from them.

If we are wise through them we learn

يا إلهي سلم فقد حار ذهني

يا إلهي سلم فقد حار ذهني

من زمان به الشرور وتكرم

من زمان به الشرور وتكرم

O my God, grant safety, for my mind is bewildered

My God, grant safety for my mind is confused

by an age in which evils exist and are honored.

By an era in which evil abounds and You are generous

إن هذا زمان سوء جهارا

إن هذا زمان سوء جهارا

والذي قد خفى عسى ما هو أعظم

والذي قد خفى عسى ما هو أعظم

Indeed, this is an age of evil in plain sight,

This is an evil era openly

and what has been hidden may be greater still.

And what is hidden perhaps is even worse

نسأل الله أن يمن بوال

نسأل الله أن يمن بوال

يؤمن المؤمنين من ظلم أظلم

يؤمن المؤمنين من ظلم أظلم

We ask God to favor us with a ruler

We ask Allah to bestow good

who protects the believers from the injustice of the most unjust.

To give security to believers from oppressive injustice

واختم العمر يا إلهي بخير

واختم العمر يا إلهي بخير

بالنبي المصطفى الشفيع المعظم

بالنبي المصطفى الشفيع المعظم

And bring life to a good end, O my God,

And conclude my life with good, my God

by the chosen Prophet, the revered intercessor.

Through the praised Prophet, the noble intercessor

صلوات الإله تترى عليه

صلوات الإله تترى عليه

وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم

وعلى آله وصحبه وسلم

May God's blessings come upon him in succession,

Blessings of God come upon him

and upon his family and companions—and grant peace.

And his family and companions and peace

ولك الحمد كل وقت وحين

ولك الحمد كل وقت وحين

عدما الله به تفضل وأنعم

عدما الله به تفضل وأنعم

And to You belongs praise at every time and moment,

And to You belongs praise every time

in number equal to all the favors and blessings God has bestowed.

When through Your grace and favor You bestow
