أيها الشخص العقول استمع مالك أقول

جنة الدنيا الخمول

O wise person, listen to what I tell you:

The paradise of this world is obscurity,

وجهنمها الفضول في مقال أو فعال

فالحذر نحوه تجول

and its hell is meddling, in speech or deed.

So beware lest you wander toward it.

لاتجي ما ليس يعني أو تراه أو تقول

أوله تسمع شيأ

Do not approach what does not concern you, or look at it or speak of it,

or listen to anything about it.

أنه هول مهول إنه ضر بحال

وله بعد قفول

It is a dreadful terror; it truly harms one's well-being,

and afterward there is a return.

يا إلهي ومليكي يا كريم يا جليل

فادرك أدركني إلهي

O my God and my Sovereign, O Generous One, O Majestic One,

so come to my aid—rescue me, my God.

إن قلبي لعليل إنني عبد فقير

وحقير وذليل

Indeed my heart is ailing; I am a poor servant,

lowly and abased.

ضاع عمري في معاص ودنا مني رحيل

نحو قبر ثم حشر

My life was wasted in sins, and my departure has drawn near,

toward a grave, then the gathering for judgment.

سفر عسر طويل ضاق صدري عيل صبري

فك أسرى يا جميل

An arduous, long journey—my breast is constricted, my patience exhausted.

Free me from captivity, O Beautiful One.

أصلح أمري شد أزري امخ وزري يا دليل

واهدني لسبيل طه

Set my affairs right, strengthen my back, wipe away my burden of sin, O Guide.

And guide me to the path of Taha.

إنه نعم السبيل واختم العمر بخير

حين يأتيني الرسول

It is indeed an excellent path; bring my life to a good end,

when the messenger comes to me.

وصلاة الله تترى وسلام لا يحول

يغشيان خير هاد

And may God's unceasing blessings and unfading peace

envelop the best of guides,

من له مجد أثيل وعلى آل وصحب

من فضائلهم تطول

him whose glory is deep-rooted—and his family and companions,

whose virtues reach far.
