الحذر كل الحذر كل الحذر

من دخولك يا فتى في ذا الفضول

من دخولك يا فتى في ذا الفضول

Caution—utmost caution, utmost caution—

against involving yourself, young man, in these idle pursuits,

من مقال أو سماع أو نظر

من مقال أو سماع أو نظر

لا تجرب واستمع مالك أقول

لا تجرب واستمع مالك أقول

whether in speech, listening, or looking.

Do not try it; listen to what I tell you.

إن فيه كل محظور وشر

إن فيه كل محظور وشر

فالحذر منه الحذر يا أهل العقول

فالحذر منه الحذر يا أهل العقول

Indeed, it contains every forbidden thing and evil.

So beware of it—beware, O people of understanding!

والذي يعنيك فاعن به وذر

والذي يعنيك فاعن به وذر

ما سواه لاتجي نحوه تجول

ما سواه لاتجي نحوه تجول

And what concerns you—attend to it, and leave

all else; do not come roaming near it.

والعوافي والسلامه من ضرر

والعوافي والسلامه من ضرر

في سكوت واعتزال وخمول

في سكوت واعتزال وخمول

And well-being and safety from harm

lie in silence, seclusion, and obscurity,

والتقى فيما بطن أو ماظهر

والتقى فيما بطن أو ماظهر

فيها تبلغ مقامات الفحول

فيها تبلغ مقامات الفحول

and in piety, in what is hidden or manifest.

Through these you attain the stations of the great masters,

وبها تسلم من كل كدر

وبها تسلم من كل كدر

وتنال كل مطلوب وسول

وتنال كل مطلوب وسول

and through them you are safe from all distress,

and gain all you seek and wish for.

والظفر كل الظفر كل الظفر

والظفر كل الظفر كل الظفر

في اتباعك للنبي الهادي الرسول

في اتباعك للنبي الهادي الرسول

And triumph—complete triumph, complete triumph—

lies in your following the Prophet, the guiding Messenger,

في جميع الأمر من ورد أو صدر

في جميع الأمر من ورد أو صدر

من فعال واعتقاد ومقول

من فعال واعتقاد ومقول

in all affairs, whether coming or going,

in deeds, belief, and speech.

ذا باجمال وقول مختصر

ذا باجمال وقول مختصر

ثم إن شئت تفاصيل الجمول

ثم إن شئت تفاصيل الجمول

This is in outline and in brief words;

then, if you wish for the details of these broad outlines,

فهي في الأحيا بذا العلم اشتهر

فهي في الأحيا بذا العلم اشتهر

هكذا قال المحبون العدول

هكذا قال المحبون العدول

they are in the Ihya, renowned for this knowledge.

Thus spoke the upright lovers,

أولياء الله فاتبع في الأثر

أولياء الله فاتبع في الأثر

لا تمل عن سر بهم أدنى عدول

لا تمل عن سر بهم أدنى عدول

God's friends—so follow in their footsteps.

Do not deviate in the least from the secret within them.

واذكر الله وذر كل البشر

واذكر الله وذر كل البشر

لازم الذكر بسير ونزول

لازم الذكر بسير ونزول

And remember God, and leave all humankind aside.

Keep to remembrance, when traveling and when halting.

ذاكر الله له الله ذكر

ذاكر الله له الله ذكر

وجليس الله من يذكر يقول

وجليس الله من يذكر يقول

Whoever remembers God, God remembers him.

And whoever remembers Him is God's companion, He says.

إن فضل الذكر جاء في السور

إن فضل الذكر جاء في السور

وبه الأخبار جاءتي والنقول

وبه الأخبار جاءتي والنقول

Indeed, the merit of remembrance is set forth in the surahs,

and reports and transmitted accounts about it have reached me.

فالزم الذكر تنل ما لاخطر

فالزم الذكر تنل ما لاخطر

في قلوب الناس في حين القفول

في قلوب الناس في حين القفول

So keep to remembrance; you will gain what has never entered

people's hearts, at the hour of return.

وصلاة الله تعداد المطر

وصلاة الله تعداد المطر

ما برق برق وما سلن السيول

ما برق برق وما سلن السيول

And may God's blessings, as many as the raindrops,

as long as lightning flashes and torrents flow,

تتغشى المصطفى صفوة مضر

تتغشى المصطفى صفوة مضر

من هدى الله به كم من جهول

من هدى الله به كم من جهول

enfold the Chosen One, the finest of Mudar,

through whom God has guided so many ignorant people,

وعلى آل وأصحاب غرر

وعلى آل وأصحاب غرر

وعلى الأزواج والبنت البتول

وعلى الأزواج والبنت البتول

and be upon his family and radiant companions,

and upon his wives and his daughter, the Chaste One.

ولربي الحمد تعداد المطر

ولربي الحمد تعداد المطر

والنعم ماهب ريح في الفصول

والنعم ماهب ريح في الفصول

And to my Lord be praises, as many as the raindrops

and His favors, as long as winds blow through the seasons.
