ولماand when نأتgrew distant داريmy home وشطتand grew far مسافتيmy travel distance
جعلتI made كتابيmy letter نائباa substitute عنfor زيارتيmy visit
When my home grew distant and the length of my journey stretched far,
And when my home grew distant and my journey stretched far,
I made my letter stand in for my visit.
I made my letter a substitute for my visit.
إذاwhen فاتنيeludes me قربnearness to الأحبةthe loved ones واللقاand meeting
ففيthen in ذكرهمremembering them راحيmy wine وروحيand my spirit وراحتيand my comfort
When nearness to the beloved and reunion elude me,
When nearness to loved ones and reunion elude me,
in remembering them are my wine, my spirit, and my repose.
In remembering them are my wine, my spirit, and my comfort.
فطوراso at times أمثلهمI picture them وطوراand at times بذكرهمthrough remembering them
وطوراand at times أناجيهمI commune with them ببعثby sending كتابتيmy writing
Now I picture them before me; now I dwell upon their memory;
So at times I picture them, and at times remember them,
and now I commune with them by sending my words.
And at times I commune with them by sending my letter.

If no downpour of generosity’s rain should drench them,
If no downpour of generosity's rain falls upon it,
then its merest dew will cool some of my burning.
Then a drizzle cools some of my heat.

They are the folk: no companion of theirs is wretched among them;
They are the people whose companion suffers no misery in their company.
whoever loves them will join them on Resurrection Day.
One who loves them will join them at the Resurrection.

وإنand if صحis true حبيmy love فهوthen it is أكبرthe greatest كرامتيmy honor
Even if I am not of them, surely I love them,
If I am not one of them, I surely love them.
and if my love is true, it is my greatest honor.
And if my love is true, it is my greatest honor.

If you accept me, it is grace and a gift;
So if you accept me, that is grace and favor;
if you shut me out, it is what my transgression has earned.
And if you shut me out, that is what my wrongdoing has earned.

No blame, then, nor reproach upon you, for I
So no blame or reproach falls on you, for I
confess my burdens of sin and my many offenses.
Confess my burdens of sin and my many wrongs.

By God, be generous, my masters, and intercede
So, by God, be generous, my masters, and intercede
for my heart to be cured of every form of hardness.
That my heart be reformed and freed from the many forms of hardness.

My God, for the sake of these folk, bestow repentance,
My God, by these people's merit, grant us repentance,
sincere and true, through which we may attain felicity;
Sincere, through which we may attain bliss.

Upon the Chosen One, his family, and then the Companions.
