خذtake منfrom الوقتtime ماwhatever سمحit grants
خذ من الوقت ما سمح
واعذرانand excuse it if عضكit bites you أوor رمحkicks
واعذران عضك أو رمح
Take from time whatever it grants,
Take from time what is allowed
and pardon it if it bites or kicks you.
And excuse its bite or stab
إنماonly اللومthe blame عندناwith us
إنما اللوم عندنا
لوif صلحناwe were upright لقدthen surely صلحit would be upright
لو صلحنا لقد صلح
The blame lies only with us;
The blame is on us
were we upright, time would surely be upright.
If we had reformed, it would have reformed
ماnothing لناfor us غيرother than كسبناour deeds
ما لنا غير كسبنا
موجبthe cause of الحزنsorrow والفرحand joy
موجب الحزن والفرح
Nothing but our own deeds
We have nothing but what we earn
brings us sorrow and joy.
The cause of sorrow and joy
لاnot يلمhe should blame غيرother than نفسهhimself
لا يلم غير نفسه
منwhoever لقىencounters الهمworry والترحand sorrow
من لقى الهم والترح
Let him blame no one but himself
None blames but himself
who encounters worry and sorrow.
Whoever faces worries and fatigue
ذامعthis, despite عفوهHis pardon الكثيرabundant
ذامع عفوه الكثير
ولوand if يؤاخذHe holds to account بماfor what اجترحone has committed
ولو يؤاخذ بما اجترح
This, despite His abundant pardon;
Abundant is His great pardon
and were He to punish for what one has committed,
Even if He takes us to account for what we committed
ماnot بقىwould remain قطever دابةa living creature
ما بقى قط دابة
هكذاthus قدindeed أتىhas come وصحand proved true
هكذا قد أتى وصح
not a single living creature would remain.
No creature would remain
Thus it has been conveyed and confirmed.
Thus has it come and gone
تبrepent إلىto اللهGod كيso that نفوزwe may attain
تب إلى الله كي نفوز
بالأمانيwith wishes وبالمنحand with gifts
بالأماني وبالمنح
Repent to God, that we may attain
Repent to God so we may win
our wishes and His gifts.
The wishes and gifts
واعتكفand remain in worship تحتbeneath بابهHis door
واعتكف تحت بابه
فازhas triumphed منwhoever تحتهbeneath it انطرحcast himself down
فاز من تحته انطرح
And remain in worship beneath His door;
And devote yourself at His door
he who casts himself beneath it triumphs.
For he has triumphed who before it has prostrated
بابهHis door بابa door to كلevery خيرgood thing
بابه باب كل خير
خابhas failed منwhoever عنهfrom it انتزحwithdrew
خاب من عنه انتزح
His door is the door to all goodness;
His door is the door to all good
he who draws away from it has failed.
He who turns away from it is lost
لاdo not تعرجturn aside علىtoward سواهanyone besides Him
لا تعرج على سواه
فاستمعso listen to قولthe words of منone who نصحgave sincere counsel
فاستمع قول من نصح
Do not turn aside to anyone but Him;
Do not detour to other than Him
so heed the words of one who counsels sincerely.
So listen to the words of one who gives advice
لمhas not يخبfailed قاصدa seeker of الكريمthe Generous One
لم يخب قاصد الكريم
منwhoever قرعknocked at بابهHis door انفتحit opened
من قرع بابه انفتح
No seeker of the Generous One has failed;
The noble-seeking is not disappointed
His door opens to whoever knocks.
Whoever knocks on His door, it opens
راجيone who hopes in اللهGod لاnot يخيبis disappointed
راجي الله لا يخيب
والذيand the one who ظنهhis trust وضحbecame clear
والذي ظنه وضح
One who hopes in God is not disappointed,
The hopeful of God is not failed
nor one whose trust is clear.
And that which he thought has become clear
ياO إلهيmy God وخالقيand my Creator
يا إلهي وخالقي
عبدa servant كمof Yours نحوtoward كمYou جنحhas turned
عبد كم نحو كم جنح
O my God and my Creator,
My God and Creator
Your servant has turned toward You,
How many creations have inclined toward You
يرتجيhe hopes for صفحكYour pardon الجميلgracious
يرتجي صفحك الجميل
فاعفso pardon ياO خيرbest of منthose who صفحpardoned
فاعف يا خير من صفح
hoping for Your gracious pardon;
Hoping for Your beautiful pardon
so pardon, O best of those who pardon.
So pardon, O Best of those who pardon
