من أراد لهم والغم الكبير

من أراد لهم والغم الكبير

فليقع سلطان للناس أو وزير

فليقع سلطان للناس أو وزير

Whoever wishes them great sorrow,

Whoever wants great sorrow for them

Let him become a sultan over the people, or a minister;

Let him become a sultan to people or minister

أو أراد الشر والضر الكثير

أو أراد الشر والضر الكثير

والكدر والإثم والوزر الغزير

والكدر والإثم والوزر الغزير

Or desires evil and much harm,

Or wants much harm and great adversity

And distress, sin, and abundant guilt,

And distress, sin, and abundant guilt

والمحن والفقر والحال الضرير

والمحن والفقر والحال الضرير

والألم فورا وفي اليوم الأخير

والألم فورا وفي اليوم الأخير

And ordeals, poverty, and a wretched condition,

And afflictions, poverty, and wretched state

And pain immediately and on the Last Day—

And pain right away and on the last day

فهو في ذي القبوله يا مستشير

فهو في ذي القبوله يا مستشير

اجتمع فيها المناكر والنكبر

اجتمع فيها المناكر والنكبر

It lies in this undertaking [uncertain reading], O seeker of counsel.

He is in the honorable month, oh advisor

Wrongdoings and arrogance [uncertain reading] are gathered within it,

The blamers and arrogant gathered in it

والزرا كله كبيره والصغير

والزرا كله كبيره والصغير

كلها شر شراره مستطير

كلها شر شراره مستطير

And every disgrace, great and small.

And planting, all of it great and small

It is all evil, its sparks spreading far.

All evil, volatile evil

ما بها خير فتيل أو نقير

ما بها خير فتيل أو نقير

مالها من جملة الشر نصير

مالها من جملة الشر نصير

There is not a thread or speck of good in it.

It has no good wick or lamp

It has no helper amid all this evil.

It has no helper against the totality of evil

بئس أولها ويابئس المصير

بئس أولها ويابئس المصير

فالحذر منهم فإني لك حذير

فالحذر منهم فإني لك حذير

Wretched is its beginning, and how wretched its end!

Miserable is its beginning and oh miserable is the outcome

So beware of them, for I am warning you,

So beware of them, for I am a warner for you

ونصيح ومشير ونذير

ونصيح ومشير ونذير

لا تخالطهم فهم بئس العشير

لا تخالطهم فهم بئس العشير

A sincere adviser, counselor, and warner.

And an advisor and guide and warner

Do not mingle with them, for they are wretched company.

Do not accompany them for they are miserable comrades

أو تجالسهم تكن منهم تصير

أو تجالسهم تكن منهم تصير

خالفوا شرع النبي الهادي البشير

خالفوا شرع النبي الهادي البشير

Nor sit with them, lest you become one of them.

Or sit with them, you will become one of them

They have defied the law of the Prophet, the guide and bearer of glad tidings,

They opposed the law of the guiding prophet

وكتاب الله والحق المنير

وكتاب الله والحق المنير

ثم طوبى للذي قلبه نوير

ثم طوبى للذي قلبه نوير

And God's Book and the radiant truth.

And God's book and the enlightening truth

Then blessed is he whose heart is radiant,

Then blessings upon he whose heart is enlightened

خامل في الناس ما يعرف حقير

خامل في الناس ما يعرف حقير

يذكر الله بقوله والضمير

يذكر الله بقوله والضمير

Obscure among people, unknown and lowly,

Tranquil among people, does not know the contemptible

Who remembers God with his words and in his heart.

Remembers God with his words and conscience

ما له هم سوى الله الكبير

ما له هم سوى الله الكبير

وعبادة ربه الفرد الخبير

وعبادة ربه الفرد الخبير

He has no concern but God, the Great,

He has no concerns except God the Great

And worship of his Lord, the Unique, the All-Aware.

And worship of his Lord, the Unique, the Expert

خبره مبذول للناس كثير

خبره مبذول للناس كثير

كله نفع قعوده والمسير

كله نفع قعوده والمسير

His knowledge is freely offered to people in abundance.

His news is given to many people

All he does is beneficial, at rest and on the move.

All of it is benefit, his sitting and walking

ينصح الجاهل ويرحم للضرير

ينصح الجاهل ويرحم للضرير

يسكر المنكر وللحق نصير

يسكر المنكر وللحق نصير

He counsels the ignorant and shows mercy to the blind.

He advises the ignorant and has mercy on the wretch

He blocks wrongdoing and is a champion of truth.

He condemns wrong and is a helper of the truth

ضره مأمون من خوف القدير

ضره مأمون من خوف القدير

رب أجرني أنني بك مستجير

رب أجرني أنني بك مستجير

One is safe from his harm, because he fears the Almighty.

His harm is safeguarded from fear of the Powerful

Lord, grant me refuge: in You I seek protection

Lord, reward me as I take refuge in You

من جميع الشر يا نعم المجير

من جميع الشر يا نعم المجير

أنت لي ناصر ويانعم النصير

أنت لي ناصر ويانعم النصير

From every evil, O excellent giver of refuge.

From all evil, oh Best of Protectors

You are my helper—and what an excellent Helper!

You are my assistant and oh Best of Helpers

وارحم المسكين والطفل الصغير

وارحم المسكين والطفل الصغير

تب علينا واكفنا نار السعير

تب علينا واكفنا نار السعير

And have mercy on the needy and the little child.

And have mercy on the destitute and small child

Turn to us in forgiveness, and shield us from the blazing Fire.

Turn to us and suffice us from Hellfire

وصلاة الله ذي الفضل الكبير

وصلاة الله ذي الفضل الكبير

تنغشي المصطفى البدر البشير

تنغشي المصطفى البدر البشير

And may the blessing of God, possessor of great bounty,

And prayers of God, the Lord of Great Virtue

Envelop the Chosen One, the full moon, the bearer of glad tidings.

Cover the Chosen One, the Guiding Prophet
