إلى الله أشكو ما بقلبي من الهم

إلى الله أشكو ما بقلبي من الهم

وما بي من كرب ومابى من الغم

وما بي من كرب ومابى من الغم

To God I complain of the sorrow in my heart,

and the anguish within me and the grief I bear,

على أنني في نعمة أي نعمة

على أنني في نعمة أي نعمة

وفضل عظيم ليس يحصر بالنظم

وفضل عظيم ليس يحصر بالنظم

though I dwell in blessing—what a blessing!—

and immense bounty that verse cannot encompass,

ولا غيره من كل قول لأنه

ولا غيره من كل قول لأنه

عدد ذر كل الرمل في الكثر والعظم

عدد ذر كل الرمل في الكثر والعظم

nor any other form of speech, for it is

as abundant and immense as all the grains of sand.

فاستغفر الله العظيم عداد ما

فاستغفر الله العظيم عداد ما

جنينا من الأوزار والذنب والإثم

جنينا من الأوزار والذنب والإثم

So seek forgiveness from God the Almighty, as many times as there are

burdens of sin, sins, and transgressions we have incurred.

ولله ربي الحمد والشكر والثنا

ولله ربي الحمد والشكر والثنا

على نعم تترى علينا بلا حسم

على نعم تترى علينا بلا حسم

And to God, my Lord, belong praise, gratitude, and laudation,

for blessings that come upon us in succession, without interruption.

ونسأله سبحانه إن يغيثنا

ونسأله سبحانه إن يغيثنا

بتوبة صدق تشفى القلب من سقم

بتوبة صدق تشفى القلب من سقم

And we ask Him—glory be to Him—if He will come to our aid

through sincere repentance that heals the heart of sickness,

ونمسي بها نمشي على خير ملة

ونمسي بها نمشي على خير ملة

على ملة المختار بالقلب والجسم

على ملة المختار بالقلب والجسم

and through it may we come to walk in the best of faiths,

upon the faith of the Chosen One, with heart and body;

ويختم لنا بالخير عند مماتنا

ويختم لنا بالخير عند مماتنا

ويغفر لنا كل المآثم والجرم

ويغفر لنا كل المآثم والجرم

and may He give us a good ending at our death,

and forgive us all sins and wrongdoing,

ويرفع عنا كل ضر ومحنة

ويرفع عنا كل ضر ومحنة

وشر وبلوى فهو ذو الفضل والحلم

وشر وبلوى فهو ذو الفضل والحلم

and lift from us every harm and trial,

and evil and affliction, for He possesses bounty and forbearance.

طلبنا كريما واسع الجود مفضلا

طلبنا كريما واسع الجود مفضلا

يجود بما فوق المطالب والوهم

يجود بما فوق المطالب والوهم

We have sought a generous One, boundless in giving, a bestower of favors,

who gives what lies beyond requests and imagination.

فكم قد حبانا واجتبانا بفضله

فكم قد حبانا واجتبانا بفضله

وكم قد حمانا من شرور ذوى الظلم

وكم قد حمانا من شرور ذوى الظلم

For how often He has favored us and chosen us through His bounty,

and how often He has protected us from the evils of wrongdoers,

بلا عمل منا وعلم ولا ولا

بلا عمل منا وعلم ولا ولا

سوى محض فضل ساقه سابق العلم

سوى محض فضل ساقه سابق العلم

without any deed or knowledge on our part, nor—nor—

but pure bounty, brought forth by foreknowledge.

ونسأله عفوا لنا وأصولنا

ونسأله عفوا لنا وأصولنا

وللأهل والأولاد والخال والعم

وللأهل والأولاد والخال والعم

And we ask Him for pardon for us and our ancestors,

and for the family, the children, the maternal uncle, and the paternal uncle,

وكل مود أو محب وصاحب

وكل مود أو محب وصاحب

وللمؤمنين الكل من عرب أو عجم

وللمؤمنين الكل من عرب أو عجم

and every well-wisher or one who loves us, and every companion,

and for all believers, whether Arab or non-Arab.

وصلى إلهي ثم سلم دائما

وصلى إلهي ثم سلم دائما

على المصطفى الداعي إلى الخير والسلم

على المصطفى الداعي إلى الخير والسلم

And may my God send blessings, then peace, forever

upon al-Mustafa, who calls to goodness and peace,

مع الآل والأصحاب ماهبت الصبا

مع الآل والأصحاب ماهبت الصبا

وما فرج الرحمن للكرب والهم

وما فرج الرحمن للكرب والهم

with his family and companions, as long as the east wind blows,

and as long as the All-Merciful brings relief from anguish and sorrow.
