Praise be to Allah, possessor of bounties and blessings,

and grace, munificence, beneficence, and generosity:

    abundant, immense praise, unceasing forever,

which cannot be counted with creation's ink and words,

repeated at every moment, with no end to it.

It endures ceaselessly through endless ages, like beginningless eternity.

Glory be to Him, exalted is He! I cannot enumerate His praises, nor

do I place my hope in anyone besides Him, for myself—indeed, for the nations too.

What can I say, and with what can I praise Him?

What is the limit of my speech, and what the limit of my mouth's reach?

Indeed, I confess my incapacity and my shortcomings,

and am marked by major sins and minor lapses.

I hope my God, out of sheer grace, will have mercy on me,

and pardon me and protect me from punishments,

and bring my life to a good end and forgive me,

and heal my heart and body of sickness.

    O Lord, O Ever-Living, O All-Sustaining, O Self-Sufficient One,

O Knower of my condition in my prosperity and my poverty,

    I complain to You of matters You know;

so fulfill my need for me, O Apportioner of shares.

And two thousand blessings, with salutations of peace following them,

upon the Prophet, the Messenger, the peerless, eminent one,

and upon his family and companions, as long as pilgrims journey to the House—

the ancient one—and as long as they yearn for a sanctuary.
