احكموها ولا بالواعلى الرجل والراس
دابهمtheir habitual practice فيin بحورseas الشرevil منfrom كاسa cup إلىto كاسa cup
دابهم في بحور الشر من كاس إلى كاس
They perfected it, caring nothing for foot or head.
They judge it and do not care about man and his head
Their habit is to move through seas of evil, from cup to cup.
They roam in oceans of evil from cup to cup
ماهمthey are not إلاexcept لهمthey have فيin غيةwayward pursuit الظلمoppression
ماهم إلا لهم في غية الظلم
خلهاleave it فكهاrelease it وانذقand fling بهاwith it فوقupon الأنجاسthe filthy ones
خلها فكها وانذق بها فوق الأنجاس
They are bent on nothing but the wayward pursuit of oppression.
They are nothing but extreme injustice
Leave it, let it go, and fling it upon the filthy ones.
Leave it be and let it go; taste it atop impurities
مانواتيdoes not help (uncertain spelling) ولاnor نأنىcomes (uncertain spelling) لخيرto good بمقياسby any measure
مانواتي ولا نأنى لخير بمقياس
ماهيit is not إلاexcept تحبloves إلاexcept الضررharm والتعكاسand contrariness
ماهي إلا تحب إلا الضرر والتعكاس
It neither helps nor leads to good by any measure.
We do not do good nor intend good in any way
It loves nothing but harm and contrariness,
It only loves harm and fickleness
والذنوبand sins العظيمةgrievous والخزاand disgrace والتنكاسand downfall
والذنوب العظيمة والخزا والتنكاس
تركتit abandoned المشيwalking بالأرجلon feet وتمشيand walks علىon الرأسthe head
تركت المشي بالأرجل وتمشي على الرأس
and grievous sins, disgrace, and downfall.
And great sins, disgrace, and vileness
It has abandoned walking on feet and walks on its head,
It left walking on feet and walks on the head
فيin الخفاsecrecy والنجاسةand impurity والخساسهand baseness والأردجاسand defilements (nonstandard form)
في الخفا والنجاسة والخساسه والأردجاس
معدنa mine الغمgrief والغفلةand heedlessness ووسواسand a whisperer خناسone who slinks away
معدن الغم والغفلة ووسواس خناس
in secrecy, impurity, baseness, and defilement.
In hiding, impurity, lowness, and vileness

Take the advice of an expert who kept vigilant watch over the times.

Try time and its people, lead time wisely
شافhe saw أشياthings فزيلهappalling (uncertain reading) للعقولto minds والاحساسand the senses
شاف أشيا فزيله للعقول والاحساس
فاعتزلso he withdrew بعدafterward لماwhen شيبواthey turned gray منهof him بالرأسon the head
فاعتزل بعد لما شيبوا منه بالرأس
He saw things appalling to minds and senses.
See bad things then banish them for minds and senses

وامتثلand follow ماwhat أنيcame (uncertain reading) عمنfrom the one who دعيwas called لابنas Ibn (son of) عباسAbbas
وامتثل ما أني عمن دعي لابن عباس
فدهfor this أحسنbetter وأسلمand safer منthan ظنونconjectures أوor تجساسspying
فده أحسن وأسلم من ظنون أو تجساس
And follow what has come down from the one called Ibn Abbas.
And follow what I forbid the one called Ibn Abbas
For this is better and safer than conjectures or spying.
For that is best and safer than suspicions or arrogance
ربLord سلمkeep safe وكنand be ليfor me فيin حياتيmy life والأرماسand the graves
رب سلم وكن لي في حياتي والأرماس
وأصلحand set right أهليmy family ومنand whoever ليI have بهwith him تعلقattachment وامساسand contact
وأصلح أهلي ومن لي به تعلق وامساس
Lord, keep me safe and be there for me in my life and in the graves.
Lord, make me safe and be with me in life and twilight
And set right my family and all with whom I have bonds and contact.
And rectify my family and those I love and cherish
واختمand conclude العمرthe lifetime بالخيراتwith good deeds ياO خالقCreator الناسhumankind
واختم العمر بالخيرات يا خالق الناس
والصلاةand blessings علىupon خيرthe best of الورىcreated beings عددas numerous as الأنفاسbreaths
والصلاة على خير الورى عدد الأنفاس
And end my life with good deeds, O Creator of humankind.
And let me conclude life with good deeds, O Creator of mankind
And blessings upon the best of creation, as numerous as breaths.
And peace be upon the best of creations, as numerous as breaths
