فقد أوبقت نفسي في الخطاء
ʿAfīf al-Dīn, is there any remedy for me?
Afif Al-Din, is there a cure for me?
For I have indeed ruined my soul through sin.
For I have ruined myself with mistakes,

تهيج بالصراخ وبالبكاء
And my heart has hardened, and I have things
And my heart has hardened, and I have things,
That stir up cries and weeping.
That provoke screaming and crying,
وماand not عينيmy eye بكتهاhas wept over them ولاnor فؤاديmy heart
وما عيني بكتها ولا فؤادي
فهلso have داءa sickness رأيتyou seen كمثلlike دائيmy sickness
فهل داء رأيت كمثل دائي
Yet neither my eye nor my heart has wept over them.
Neither have my eyes wept them, nor my heart,
So have you seen a sickness like mine?
Have you seen an illness like my illness?

So if you have found a prescription, then [unclear word],
So if you can prescribe a treatment, then do so,
And if not, favor me with your prayers.
Otherwise, grant me with prayer,

May the generous Lord churn forth grace [wording uncertain],
Perhaps the Generous Lord brings forth favor,
Bestowing healing freely, without cause.
Without cause, generously granting healing,

So do not disappoint my expectation, O my Lord,
Do not disappoint my assumption, O my Master,
For I have spoken the words of the one on the bare ground.
For I have spoken the words of the barefoot one,

And when I was bewildered about my condition and my affairs,
And when I was confused in my affair and matter,
I began seeking help by calling out.
I began crying for help,

And I have no rescuer other than your grace,
And I have none but Your favor as a succorer,
And I have nothing but utter need for bounty.
And with me is pure poverty for giving,

My intercessor is better than the one who bore Hawwa,
And the best whose intercession is accepted on the Day of Recompense:
And the best intercessor on the Day of Recompense,

Of them is what the honest scholar [al-Qadi 'Iyad] related to us,
Judge ʿIyāḍ, to us in al-Shifāʾ.
With healing,

So stand for me in ease and hardship,

For You have not ceased to divide the gifts,
And may you ever remain the reliever of affliction.
