Wine—when its cups rise above the palms,

it seems to rest in the palms without the cups.

And the cups seem, amid the surrounding

light of the wine, to swim in shallow water.

Were its radiance scattered through the deep darkness,

evening would rise with the shining brow of dawn.

It shed its brilliant hue upon bodies,

and flowed with its delight into souls.
