The sea's greenness was a smoothly polished palace,
The greenness of the sea was a towering palace
And within it were pearls unmarred by holes.
In it pearls that bore no piercings
كانَwas سَوادblackness اللَيلthe night فيin ضوءlight صُبحهits dawn
كانَ سَواد اللَيل في ضوء صُبحه
سَوادblackness شَبابyouth فيin بَياضwhiteness مَشيبgray hair
سَواد شَباب في بَياض مَشيب
The night's blackness in the light of its dawn was
The blackness of night in the light of its dawn
Youth's blackness amid the whiteness of gray hair.
