يا رستمي استعمل الجِدا

يا رستمي استعمل الجِدا

وَكِدّنا في حَظِنا كَدّا

وَكِدّنا في حَظِنا كَدّا

O Rustami, apply yourself in earnest,

O Rustami, be diligent,

And labor hard for us to secure our share.

And strive for our fortune with effort,

فَإِنَّك المَأمول وَالمُرتَجى

فَإِنَّك المَأمول وَالمُرتَجى

تَهوِّن الخَطب إِذا اِشتَدا

تَهوِّن الخَطب إِذا اِشتَدا

For you are the one hoped for and looked to;

For you are the one hoped for and sought,

You ease calamity when it grows severe.

You make hardships easier when they intensify,

أَحكمت مَن ذا السور ما لَم تَجد

أَحكمت مَن ذا السور ما لَم تَجد

وَاللَه مِن أَحكامِهِ بُدّا

وَاللَه مِن أَحكامِهِ بُدّا

You fortified the parts of this wall you had,

You governed those with the wall when you did not find,

By God, no choice but to fortify.

By God, any way around His rulings,

فَخلفه نَسلٌ كَثير لِمَن

فَخلفه نَسلٌ كَثير لِمَن

أَصفَت لِآذريونها السودّا

أَصفَت لِآذريونها السودّا

For behind it is a large brood of one

So for whoever you made the wall black,

Who reserved the black ones for her marigold.

There followed a great number of offspring,

وَهُم كياجوج وَماجوج

وَهُم كياجوج وَماجوج

إِن عدَدَتهم لَم تُحصِهم عَدّا

إِن عدَدَتهم لَم تُحصِهم عَدّا

And they are like Gog and Magog:

And they are like Gog and Magog,

If you counted them, you could not tally them all.

If you count them you cannot number them,

وَأَنتَ ذو القرنين في عَصرِنا

وَأَنتَ ذو القرنين في عَصرِنا

جَعَلتهُ ما بَينَهُم سَدّا

جَعَلتهُ ما بَينَهُم سَدّا

And you are Dhu al-Qarnayn in our age:

And you are Dhul Qarnayn in our time,

You made it a barrier between them.

You have made between them a barrier.
