Many a night have I kept company with, downcast
Lord of a gloomy night whose company depressed my mind
in spirit, sorrowful, a companion to scattered cares,
A troubled ally of scattered cares
مؤنِساًgiving companionship ربعهits abode بِطولwith the length of أَنينيmy moaning
مؤنِساً ربعه بِطول أَنيني
وَهُوَwhile it ليto me موحشmaking one lonely بِطولwith the length of السُكوتِthe silence
وَهُوَ لي موحش بِطول السُكوتِ
Keeping its abode company with my long moaning,
His long groaning was my companion in his quarter
while it makes me lonely with its long silence,
Yet to me he was lonely in his long silence
تَحتَbeneath سَقفa roof مِنof الزَبَرجَدchrysolite
تَحتَ سَقف مِن الزَبَرجَد
قَدindeed رُصعhas been studded بِالدُرwith pearls وَالياقوتِand rubies
قَد رُصع بِالدُر وَالياقوتِ
Beneath a roof of chrysolite
Beneath a roof of emerald
that has been studded with pearls and rubies.
