جَعلتI was made أَسيراًa captive فيin يَدthe hand of الراحwine مَوثِقاbound fast
جَعلت أَسيراً في يَد الراح مَوثِقا
فَأَقبَلتُso I began أَمشيto walk مشيةthe gait of المُتَقاعسone who hangs back
فَأَقبَلتُ أَمشي مشية المُتَقاعس
I was made a captive, bound fast in wine’s hand.
I made a prisoner in the hand of the wind bound
So I began walking with a laggard’s gait.
So I proceeded walking with the gait of one who lags
تَماكسhaggles رجليmy foot فيover خَطاsteps أَستَزيدَهاI ask it for more
تَماكس رجلي في خَطا أَستَزيدَها
وَلَمand not أَكُI was فيin اِتراعهاfilling it to the brim بِالمماكسa haggler at all
وَلَم أَكُ في اِتراعها بِالمماكس
My foot haggles over the further steps I ask of it,
My feet stumble in strides I augment
yet I had not haggled over filling it to the brim.
Yet I did not resist its pull
