بِعَذلby reproach يُحاكيresembles لَذعِهِits sting لَذعةthe sting of الفَجرdawn
I say, having been roused from the drowsiness of sleep,
by reproach whose sting resembles the sting of dawn:
دَعونيleave me وَلَيلwith the night of اللَهوpleasure فيin لَيلةthe night of المُنىwishes
وَلاand do not توقِظونيawaken me بِالمَلامwith blame وَبِالزَجرand with rebuke
'Leave me with the night of pleasure, on the night of wishes,
and do not awaken me with blame and rebuke.'
وَقالواand they said ليto me اِستَيقظwake up فَصُبحكfor your morning لائحis appearing
فَقُلتso I said لَهُمto them طيبthe sweetness of الكَرىsleep ساعةَat the hour of الفَجرdawn
And they said to me, 'Awake, for your morning is dawning!'
So I said to them, 'Sleep is sweetest at the hour of dawn.'
