وَسَنورة سالمَت فَأَرها

وَسَنورة سالمَت فَأَرها

فَبَينَهُما أَبَداً هُدنَه

فَبَينَهُما أَبَداً هُدنَه

And a she-cat made peace with her mice;

The cat set a trap and made peace with the mouse

so between them there is always a truce.

So there would be a truce between them forever

تَدور وَفي فَمها جَوزةٌ

تَدور وَفي فَمها جَوزةٌ

وَشيء أَصابته مِن جَنبه

وَشيء أَصابته مِن جَنبه

She goes about with a walnut in her mouth,

She circles with a walnut in her mouth

and something she obtained from beside it,

And something she got from her side

لِتنصب لِلفَأر فَخّاً بِهِ

لِتنصب لِلفَأر فَخّاً بِهِ

كَذا القرن مُختَل قرنه

كَذا القرن مُختَل قرنه

to set a trap for the mice with it.

To set up a trap for the mouse with it

Thus a rival outwits his rival.

Thus is the crooked nature of the crooked

وَتبصرها مثل حَواءة

وَتبصرها مثل حَواءة

لَها رقية وَلَها دخنه

لَها رقية وَلَها دخنه

And you see her like a female snake-charmer:

You see her like a female serpent

she has an incantation, and she has a fumigation.

Who has an incantation and smoke

بِها تَخرج الفَأر مِن جحرِها

بِها تَخرج الفَأر مِن جحرِها

وَما ذاكَ عَيب وَلا هُجنه

وَما ذاكَ عَيب وَلا هُجنه

With it, the mice emerge from their hole;

With it she brings out the mouse from its burrow

and that is no fault or disgrace.

That is no shame or disgrace

فَمَن لَم يُوافقه شُرب الدَواء

فَمَن لَم يُوافقه شُرب الدَواء

للحَصر يَستَعمل الدَخنه

للحَصر يَستَعمل الدَخنه

For whoever finds that drinking medicine does not agree with him

So whoever cannot tolerate drinking medicine

uses fumigation for constipation.

Uses smoke for constriction
