مَثل شَيخ إِذا تَعاطى الخَسارة
A mature, bridled horse is in the iwan at my place,
Frowning in the parlor's near,
Like an old man when he courts loss.
An old man looking glum;
هبكsuppose you صيرتهyou made him بِالإِيوانin the iwan (hall) مُهراًa colt
هبك صيرته بِالإِيوان مُهراً
كَيفَhow تَحتالyou contrive إِنif أَرَدناwe want فرارهhis escape
كَيفَ تَحتال إِن أَرَدنا فراره
Suppose you made him a colt in the iwan—
To soothe him, make the parlor price
How will you contrive it if we want him to escape?
In case we want him gone.
