كَأَنَّas though نُجومstars اللَيلthe night سارَتtraveled نَهارَهاthrough their day
كَأَنَّ نُجوم اللَيل سارَت نَهارَها
وَوافقتand reached عَشاءاًevening وَهِيَwhile they were أَنضاءworn-out ones أَسفارjourneys
وَوافقت عَشاءاً وَهِيَ أَنضاء أَسفار
As though the stars of night had traveled through their day,
As if the stars of night marched their day
And reached evening, worn out by journeys,
And met for an evening though they were radiant travelers
فخيمنَso they encamped حَتّىso that تَستَريحmay rest ركابهاtheir mounts
فخيمنَ حَتّى تَستَريح ركابها
فَلاso no فلكcelestial sphere جارٍmoving وَلاand no كَوكَبstar سارtraveling
فَلا فلك جارٍ وَلا كَوكَب سار
So they encamped to let their mounts rest,
So they lingered until their riders rested
And so no celestial sphere moves, nor does any star travel.
With no orbit revolving, no planet wandering
