قدindeed رميناwe have been struck منby الزمانtime بهَمَwith sorrow
قد رمينا من الزمان بهَمَ
قُدّمwas advanced النذلthe scoundrel والكريمand the noble man تأخّرfell behind
قُدّم النذل والكريم تأخّر
Time has assailed us with sorrow.
Time has cast us with worries and grief
The scoundrel was advanced, while the noble man fell behind.
The vile are promoted, the noble left behind
ماتdied منwhoever عاشlived بالفضيلةwith virtue جوعاًof hunger
مات من عاش بالفضيلة جوعاً
وحظيand found favor مَنwhoever يقودacts as a pimp أوor يتمسخرplays the buffoon
وحظي مَن يقود أو يتمسخر
Whoever lived virtuously died of hunger.
He who lived virtuously died of hunger
And whoever pimps or plays the buffoon found favor.
Fortune favours those who exploit and mock
