I tried to catch them;

I tried to grab and take

I awoke—ah, it did not last!

But alas, I awoke with a start

ضحك عليّ بقيت

ابكي عليه ما أنام

It played a trick on me; I was left

It laughed at me, I remained

Weeping over them; I do not sleep.

Crying for it whene'er I depart
