    I have no hope but Your pardon, O my Lord,

    on the Day of Resurrection—not in knowledge or deeds.

    And I hope for Your protection in the hour of fear,

    O You of boundless generosity, if my means fail me.

    I come to You, confessing my shortcomings,

    a servant imploring at Your door, O Lord of bounty.

    وإن رُددت وحاشى يردّه الوجل

    So if I am accepted, it is a favor from You we know well;

    and if I am turned away—far be it!—dread brings him back.

    يوم المَعاد وقد لاذت به الرُّسُل

    O you over whom the banner of praise is raised,

    on the Day of Return, when the messengers have sought refuge in him;

    and you whose intercession is truly hoped for tomorrow,

    at a gathering where all people have been struck with bewilderment.

    You are the means of approach, O best of humankind, and the one

    who is the refuge for those whom missteps have terrified.

    In you I sought refuge; may God's blessing, O my hope,

    be ever upon you, then upon the Companions.
