How lucky is he whose procession is by day,

    O little ones!

That one, among the little boys, has become

    Triumphant.

    He becomes a grandee,

    His buttons undone,

Like the moon sailing by night,

    With dignity upon him.

Oh, how lovely the procession on circumcision day,

    When it makes its rounds,

The little boys riding in it joyfully,

    Like full moons!

    The frame drums keep croaking

Over a reed pipe that shrieks,

    If its player chirps

    Right and left.

Yes, and the little boy—you find him, once he is cut,

    In sorrow.

It made him forget how he had rejoiced before

    Amid the merriment.

    And you, little ones,

    Listen to what I said:

    ما هو فشار

    It is true, and I have tried it;

    It is no tall tale.
