يا حُسن بدر أدار الشمس في يده
بخصرهbecause of his waist غيّبتI lost عقليmy reason منfrom الفرحjoy
بخصره غيّبت عقلي من الفرح
How lovely the full moon who turned the sun in his hand!
O beauty, full moon controls the sun in his hand
In delight at his waist, I lost my reason.
With his waist my mind disappeared from joy

He passes the cup around, with eyes gazing upon him;
The cup circulates in the eyes watching him
He prolongs his draughts from drunken eyes and from a goblet.
Prolongs from the intoxication of his eyelids and from his cup

من كاسه اغتبقي يا نفسُ واصطحبي
In the night of his forelock, with the dawn of his brow,
In a night whose eve mingled with the dawn of his morning
Drink at evening from his cup, O soul, and keep company.
From his cup take a sip, O soul, and keep company
