How can I be safe from her whose eyes are deadly,

When she playfully wreaks havoc with coquetry and kohl?

And she has guarded, with bows made from her eyebrows,

A cheek that turned rosy with bashfulness at a kiss.

And toward matters that constrict the breast if hidden,

And if they come to light, I remain in dread of them.

So woe if they are known, and woe if they are concealed!

By my life, my stratagems have dwindled among humankind.
