Hasten to a garden guarded by God's aid,
Hasten to the garden with the help of the Protected God
Surpassing all gardens with bananas planted there.
It surpasses gardens with its banana trees planted

Free of pits—how often it has made me fall for it,
Free from malice, how much it has enthralled me
Besotted with a thwarted hope for it.
Passionately hoping for the inverted in it

Its leaves sway proudly when they spread
Its leaves sway confusedly when they spread
Over the branches like peacocks' tails.
On the branches like the tails of peacocks

I have been fond of it since it came to resemble me in color,
I befriended it since it began to resemble me in color
And the reason for our union is a kind of likeness.
And the reason for our affinity is a kind of pun

But this one's yellowness comes from its soundness,
But the yellowness of this one is from its perfection
And my pallor from lovesickness and bankruptcy.
While my yellowness is from deprivation, love, and bankruptcy

Will time, I wonder, favor me—even in a dream—
It seems time, even in sleep, aids me
With a dish of syrup and bananas dipped in it,
With a bowl of rainwater and a banana submerged in it

On a day of clear skies and cloud that passes wondrously,
On an awake day, and clouds surprisingly scatter
Ever laughing and scowling because of those two,
Laughing and frowning remain of the two

While the garden's flowers drip with rain,
And the garden's flowers laden with drops
Weeping for joy through drowsy eyes?
Weep with joy with winking eyes

My dear brother, if this happens after the appearance
My brother, if this is after the first signs
Of the first offerings of hospitality, to bring us cheer,
Of dwellings appeared, bringing comfort

And how welcome is every sweet that comes then,
How good is every sweet thing that came then
But with no price for me to pay from my purse.
But without a price I would give it from my purse
