عن المحبة لا العذّال تلويني

ولا صفائي ممزوجاً بتلوين

ولا صفائي ممزوجاً بتلوين

No reproachers can turn me away from love,

No reproachers turn me away from love,

nor is my devotion's purity mingled with changing colors.

Nor is my sincerity mingled with fickleness.

وإن أطيب أوقاتي وأنعمها

وإن أطيب أوقاتي وأنعمها

ساعات قربك يا من حبه ديني

ساعات قربك يا من حبه ديني

Indeed, the sweetest and most blissful of my hours

And indeed, the sweetest and most blissful of my times

are the hours of your nearness, O you whose love is my faith.

Are the hours near you, O you whose love is my religion.

يدني لي الحزن يوم لا أراك به

يدني لي الحزن يوم لا أراك به

ويوم رؤياك للأفراح يُدنيني

ويوم رؤياك للأفراح يُدنيني

The day on which I do not see you brings sorrow close to me,

A day in which I do not see you brings sorrow close to me,

while the day I see you draws me near to joys.

And a day of seeing you brings me close to joy.

ولست أسلو وداداً أنت تعهده

ولست أسلو وداداً أنت تعهده

ولا عن الحب طول الدهر يُقصيني

ولا عن الحب طول الدهر يُقصيني

I never forget my love for you—you yourself know it—

And I do not forget the affection you have known,

nor can the long ages drive me away from love.

Nor does the passage of time drive me away from love.

يا بدر تَمٍّ إذا ما لاح مُكتملاً

يا بدر تَمٍّ إذا ما لاح مُكتملاً

وغصن بان إذا ما ماس من لين

وغصن بان إذا ما ماس من لين

O full moon, perfected whenever it rises complete,

O full moon, when it shines in its fullness,

and bān-tree branch, whenever it sways in supple grace!

And bough of a bān tree, when it sways with suppleness:

شوقي إليك وصبري عنك ذاك وذا

شوقي إليك وصبري عنك ذاك وذا

بالمدّ والقصر كُلٌّ ظل يُضنيني

بالمدّ والقصر كُلٌّ ظل يُضنيني

My longing for you and my patience apart from you—this one and that—

My longing for you and my patience apart from you—that and this—

whether prolonged or shortened, each keeps wearing me away.

One long, the other short: each has kept me wasting away.

إن الفؤاد رعاك اللَه يا أملي

إن الفؤاد رعاك اللَه يا أملي

يدري الأحبة والأعدا بتبيين

يدري الأحبة والأعدا بتبيين

Indeed, the heart—may God preserve you, O my hope—

Indeed, the heart—may God protect you, O my hope—

knows loved ones and enemies by what I make plain.

Clearly knows loved ones and enemies.

فسل فؤادك عني فهو يشهد لي

فسل فؤادك عني فهو يشهد لي

بصدق قولي وحسبي ذا ويكفيني

بصدق قولي وحسبي ذا ويكفيني

So ask your heart about me: it bears witness for me

So ask your heart about me, for it bears witness for me

to the truth of my words; that is enough for me, and suffices.

To the truth of my words; this is all I need, and is enough for me.
