    O Khushtanank, welcome—and, apparently, I am well!

You have left me lonely—“taztani” [unclear]—since you vanished from my eyes.

My longing for you and my distance from you have left

My heart in fire and my eyes drowning.

I see you, your innards filled, all gathered together,

Appearing to me in vain along every road.

You challenged me in armor that has so often proved too hard

For the hand of one who brought no silver to strip away.

If you gather in my mouth—if only you would!—

I shall surely make you fearful with the edge of the white swords.

You disdain walking out of pride; you will not come to me

Except on the head, O Mishkah, in a dish.

Visit me, even if you are carried on a cage,

And preserve the last breath of life, nearly extinguished for your sake.

Your stuffing, when smelled, is so proud it almost

Says boastfully, “Glory be to Him who created!”
