فيon رقبتهhis neck علّقhung up
في رقبته علّق
الجمّالthe camel-driver ردبهhis grain measure (reading uncertain) لهfor him
الجمّال ردبه له
Upon his neck was hung,
by the camel-driver, his grain measure for him.
دلاdangled وهوand he كنّهas though he/it were سوسwoodworm
دلا وهو كنّه سوس
فيin ركبتهhis knee ارثواhave pity لهon him
في ركبته ارثوا له
He dangled, as though there were woodworm
in his knee—have pity on him.
مَنwhoever حكscratched باصباعهwith his finger
مَن حك باصباعه
فيin ردّهhis reply (sense uncertain) يديرواthey turn لهfor him
في ردّه يديروا له
Whoever scratched with his finger,
in his reply, they turn it for him.
