O Mishkah, in Bulaq

Are little shrubs and all that delights.

لها مَن بلع يشتاق

لها مَن بلع يشتاق

فاسعَ إليه ترتاح

فاسعَ إليه ترتاح

Whoever has swallowed them longs for them.

So hasten there, and you will find relief.

وفيها كمان مقته

وفيها كمان مقته

عجيجير على قته

عجيجير على قته

And there is also a cucumber patch there:

A little cucumber atop a cucumber.

فكاسر هناك فته

فكاسر هناك فته

عسى ترى بدرك لاح

عسى ترى بدرك لاح

So share some crumbled bread there;

Perhaps you will see your full moon shine forth.

يا مشكاح قم بكره

يا مشكاح قم بكره

واتمشى حدا الخضره

واتمشى حدا الخضره

O Mishkah, rise early,

And stroll beside the greenery.

وابلع شي من الخضره

وابلع شي من الخضره

تزول عنك الأتراح

تزول عنك الأتراح

And swallow something of the greenery;

Your sorrows will fade away.

يا مشكاح تعا أقل لك

يا مشكاح تعا أقل لك

إذا ما انصرم نزلك

إذا ما انصرم نزلك

O Mishkah, come, let me tell you:

If ever your provisions run out,

فعد له ودَع شغلك

فعد له ودَع شغلك

تعد إليك الأفراح

تعد إليك الأفراح

Then return to it and leave your work;

Joys will return to you.
