Oh, how lovely is spring, with its dew!

Its scattered flowers form an ordered pattern.

A cloud appeared on its sea’s two cheeks, and it grew lovely

    when words came to me.

When the sky weeps over it, there is shown

by its gardens a smile like a thirsty man’s.

Whoever ventures one day among its hills longs,

out of joy, for this day to last a year.

O people, O people, listen—what is the matter with you?

This one beside this one, like this, in a crowd.

Get up and play Falqīs or Ḥablamā,

or else al-Qafqashā for a little while in the dark.
