A patron turned to rescue me and had the power to do so;

To overcome the loss of wealth and power

he had not known, but put that right the moment he knew.

And he who knew not loss shall know it in time

حام حمى اللَه من حُسّاده نعَماً

سيقت له ما اختفى منها وما ظهرا

سيقت له ما اختفى منها وما ظهرا

A protector—God guarded blessings from his enviers,

Protector of God from the envy of foes are blessings

brought to him, both the hidden and the manifest.

Brought to him, both hidden and revealed

مَن ذا يقاسيه بأساً في مُنافسة

مَن ذا يقاسيه بأساً في مُنافسة

أو مَن يقايسه حلماً إذا غفرا

أو مَن يقايسه حلماً إذا غفرا

Who can withstand his might in a contest,

Who can match his might in competition

or compare with him in forbearance when he forgives?

Or equal his clemency when he forgives

يا سيداً ترد الآمال منهله

يا سيداً ترد الآمال منهله

وكلها منه بالمأمول قد صدرا

وكلها منه بالمأمول قد صدرا

O master, hopes come to your watering place,

O Master, you are the source of hope

and all have departed from it with what they hoped for.

And all hopes flow from you as wished for

ميّزتَني للثنا بالعطف مُنتصباً

ميّزتَني للثنا بالعطف مُنتصباً

لما جزمت برفع القلب مُنكسرا

لما جزمت برفع القلب مُنكسرا

With kindness you singled me out to stand and offer praise,

You distinguished me for praise though bent over

when you resolved to lift my broken heart.

When you decided to lift my broken heart

بمُطلق الجود كم قيّدت من مُهَج

بمُطلق الجود كم قيّدت من مُهَج

فلا طوى الدهر من نُعماك ما انتشرا

فلا طوى الدهر من نُعماك ما انتشرا

With unfettered generosity, how many souls you have bound!

With absolute generosity how you have bound

So may time never fold away what has spread of your bounty.

So many passions, never unfolding your blessings
