غَرُبَتgrew distant خَلائِقُكَyour qualities الحِسانُthe beautiful غَريبَةًestranged
غَرُبَت خَلائِقُكَ الحِسانُ غَريبَةً
وَرَمىand cast الزَّمانُtime دُنُوَّهاtheir nearness بِبُعادِwith separation
وَرَمى الزَّمانُ دُنُوَّها بِبُعادِ
Your beautiful qualities grew distant, estranged;
Your good manners have become estranged
And time cast their nearness into separation.
And time has cast their intimacy far away
ذَهَبَتthey departed كَماjust as ذَهَبَdeparted الرَّبيعُspring وَخَلَّفَتand left behind (outstripped)
ذَهَبَت كَما ذَهَبَ الرَّبيعُ وَخَلَّفَت
قَيظَsummer heat المَقيلِof the midday rest حَرارَةُthe burning of الأَكبادِthe livers
قَيظَ المَقيلِ حَرارَةُ الأَكبادِ
They departed as spring departed; and outstripped was
They have gone just as spring went away
The summer heat of the midday rest by the burning of livers.
Leaving the heat of noon to burn the livers
