رَمَتthey cast بِالحِمىtoward the protected pasture أَبصارَهاtheir eyes مُطمَئِنَّةًat ease
رَمَت بِالحِمى أَبصارَها مُطمَئِنَّةً
فَلَمّاthen when بَدَتappeared نَجدٌNajd وَهَبَّتand blew جَنوبُهاits south wind
فَلَمّا بَدَت نَجدٌ وَهَبَّت جَنوبُها
They calmly cast their eyes toward the protected pasture.
She cast her eyes towards the sanctuary in tranquility
Then, when Najd appeared and its south wind blew,
But when Nejd appeared with its blowing south wind
بَخِلناwe begrudged عَلَيهاto them بِالبُرىwith the nose-rings فَتَقَطَّعَتso they snapped
بَخِلنا عَلَيها بِالبُرى فَتَقَطَّعَت
وَقَلَّand it would be little لِنَجدٍfor Najd لَوif تَقَرَّتsought it out قُلوبُهاtheir hearts
وَقَلَّ لِنَجدٍ لَو تَقَرَّت قُلوبُها
We begrudged them their nose-rings, so the rings snapped.
We were stingy towards her with the land, so she was broken
And little would it be for Najd, even if their hearts sought it out.
And it was said to Nejd, if only her hearts could settle
