أَغناenriched جَزيلُabundant نَداكَyour bounty ياO ابنَson of مُقَلَّدٍMuqallad
شُكريmy gratitude وَقَصَّرَand fell short عَنكَof you جُهدُthe utmost effort ثَنائيmy praise
The lavishness of your bounty, O son of Muqallad, has rendered needless
Your lavish bounty, O son of Muqallad, has enriched
my thanks; and my utmost effort in praise falls short of your due.
my gratitude; yet my utmost praise falls short of you.
وَصَفواthey described بَياضَthe whiteness يَدِthe hand of الكَليمِthe one God spoke to (Moses) لِمُعجِزٍbecause of a miracle
فيهِin it وَكَمand how many لَكَyou have مِنof يَدٍa hand بَيضاءِwhite (beneficent)
They tell of the whiteness of Moses’ hand, God’s interlocutor, because of the wonder
They described the whiteness of Moses’ hand because of a miracle
in him—yet how many a white hand of beneficence you possess!
within it—yet how many white hands are yours!
وَاِستَطرَفواand they found wondrous إِحياءbringing back to life عيسىJesus مَيِّتاًa dead man
فَرداًa single one وجُودُكَand your generosity باعِثُthe reviver of الفُقَراءِthe poor
They deemed it wondrous that Jesus brought a dead man to life,
And they marveled at Jesus’ bringing a dead man to life—
one alone—while your generosity brings the poor to life.
just one—yet your generosity revives the poor.
وَرَأَواand they considered وَقَدand already طَلَعَascended السَّماءheaven مُحَمَّدٌMuhammad
عَجَباًa wonder وَقَدرُكَand your rank فَوقَabove كُلِّevery سَماءِheaven
They deemed it, when Muhammad had ascended into heaven,
And they considered Muhammad’s ascent to heaven
a marvel—while your rank is above every heaven.
a wonder—yet your rank is above every heaven.
