وَبَعيدَةٍand a distant beloved سَمَحَgranted الخَيالُthe dream-vision بِقُربِهاwith her nearness
وَبَعيدَةٍ سَمَحَ الخَيالُ بِقُربِها
حَتّىuntil دَنَتshe drew near فَبِحَمدِهِso praise be to it لاnot حَمدِهاpraise to her
حَتّى دَنَت فَبِحَمدِهِ لا حَمدِها
And a distant beloved—the dream-vision granted her nearness,
Though distant, my imagination made her near
Until she drew near: praise be to it, not to her.
Until she came close, so praise be to Him, not her
مالَتshe inclined مَعَwith الواشيthe tale-bearer وَماسَand swayed قَوامُهاher figure
مالَت مَعَ الواشي وَماسَ قَوامُها
فَرَأَيتُso I saw ليَّthe twisting of عُهودِهاher vows فيin قَدِّهاher form
فَرَأَيتُ ليَّ عُهودِها في قَدِّها
She sided with the tale-bearer, and her figure swayed;
She leaned towards the slender one, her figure touched
So I saw the twisting of her vows in her form.
So I saw our old love in her neck again
