الناسُthe people فيin السِلمِpeace وَالعُشّاقُand the lovers بَينَهُمamong them
الناسُ في السِلمِ وَالعُشّاقُ بَينَهُم
فيin أَعظَمِthe greatest الحَربِwar مِنbecause of أَخبارِnews مَنthose whom عَشِقواthey loved
في أَعظَمِ الحَربِ مِن أَخبارِ مَن عَشِقوا
People are at peace, while the lovers among them
People live in peace, and lovers live between them,
are in the fiercest war over news of those they love.
In the greatest of wars, from the news of those who fell in love.
كَمhow many مَوقِفٍa position لِلوَغىfor battle صَعبٍdifficult سَلِمتُI remained unharmed بِهِin it
كَم مَوقِفٍ لِلوَغى صَعبٍ سَلِمتُ بِهِ
حَتّىuntil شَهِدتُI witnessed وَغىًa battle أَنصارُهاits allies الحَدَقُthe pupils of the eyes
حَتّى شَهِدتُ وَغىً أَنصارُها الحَدَقُ
How many a difficult battlefield I survived unharmed,
How many difficult situations of turmoil I have endured
until I witnessed a battle whose allies were eyes.
Until I witnessed turmoil whose supporters are the eyeballs.
