تُفّاحَةٌan apple بِتُّI spent the night بِهاwith it لَيلَتيmy night
تُفّاحَةٌ بِتُّ بِها لَيلَتي
أَبُثُّهاI confide to it سِرِّيَmy secret وَالشَكوىand the lament
أَبُثُّها سِرِّيَ وَالشَكوى
An apple—I spent my night with it,
An apple tree spends my nights
Confiding to it my secret and my lament.
I tell it my secret sorrows and laments
أَضُمُّهاI clasp it مُعتَنِقاًembracing لاثِماًkissing
أَضُمُّها مُعتَنِقاً لاثِماً
إِذاwhen ذَكَّرتُI recalled خَدَّthe cheek مَنthe one whom أَهوىI love
إِذا ذَكَّرتُ خَدَّ مَن أَهوى
I clasp it, embracing and kissing it,
I embrace it closely, guilty
Whenever I recall the cheek of the one I love.
When it reminds me of the cheek of my beloved
