أَقمتyou brought about علىupon عاشِقيكyour lovers القيامهْJudgment Day
بوردٍwith a rose لخدٍّfor a cheek وغصنٍand a branch لقامَهْfor a figure
You have brought Judgment Day upon your lovers,
You have brought doom upon your lovers
with a rose for a cheek and a branch for a figure.
With a rose for a cheek and a branch for a stature
فمنso from وردِthe rose of خدّكyour cheek كيفَhow النجاةُescape
ومنand from غصنthe branch of قدّكyour figure كيفَhow السّلامهsafety
So how can one escape the rose of your cheek,
So for the rose of your cheek, how can there be salvation?
and how find safety from the branch of your figure?
And for the branch of your stature, how can there be safety?

while in your beauty you are the abode of eternal life.
While with your beauty, you are the abode of eternity

The humiliation you give me delighted me in my bliss;
You disgraced me with disgrace from you
and may the honor I give you delight you—delight you.
While your coquetry honored me with honor

I was smitten with love in this passion
and to me that forfeiture is like profit.
And to me that passion was like profit

And my heart said, 'May I never lack love!'
Al-Hasha said “May I not lose passion”
So I told it, 'May you never lack reproach!'
So I said “May you not lose blame”

My eyelids lavish water for your sake,
My eyelids shed water for you
as though my eyelids were the palm of Ibn Mamah.
As if my eyelids were the palms of Ibn Mama

While my oppressor, I have thanked injustice

بالعَهْدِfor succession والخالُand the mole فيهupon it العَلاَمَهْthe signature
The fine lines of your cheek are the writing on the charter
The cheeks' moles are the line of the register
of succession, and the mole upon it is the signature.
With the covenant, and the mole in it is the mark
وأَنعمتِand you bestowed favors حتىto the point that خَلَعْتِyou bestowed as a robe الفتورlanguor
وماand not زالَdeparted عنكfrom you علىupon ريمthe gazelle of رامَهْRamah
And you were so generous that you bestowed languor as a robe—
You have been so generous that you cast off stagnation
without its leaving you—upon the gazelle of Ramah.
And no remnant of worry remained with you
وأَدهشنيand bewildered me الخالُthe mole عَنْfrom أَنthat أَرىI gaze
إِلىحسنِهat its beauty وَهْوwhile it is فيon الخدِّthe cheek شَامَهa beauty spot
And the mole so bewildered me that I could not gaze
The mole amazed me from seeing
at its beauty, though it is a beauty spot on the cheek.
Its beauty while it is a mole on the cheek

She appeared as a moon and gazed like a wild cow's calf;
It appeared like a moon, rang like a planet
and she swayed like a sand dune and walked like a cloud.
Flowed like a star and walked like a cloud

And they said, 'We see you have fallen in love with the veil.'
And they said “We see you have loved masks”
So I said, 'Yes, and I no longer love the turban.'
So I said “Yes, and I have asked for a turban”
