وبدرand the full moon التِّمperfect fullness إِلاَّexcept فيin السِّرَارِthe moon’s dark phase
The dream-vision resembled you, even in the bracelet,
Your phantom kept conversing even through my bracelet,
And the full moon, except in its dark phase.
And the full moon except in the darkness.
أَساكنةَO dweller الفؤادِthe heart بلاwithout رَحِيلٍdeparture
وآنسةًand one at ease لَدَيْهِwithin it بلاwithout نِفَارِaversion
O dweller in the heart, never departing,
A dweller of my heart without departure,
And at ease within it, never shying away,
And a companion to it without aloofness.
جعلتُI made القلبَthe heart منamong جنَّاتِthe gardens of عدْنٍEden
لأَنَّكِbecause you منهُwithin it فيin دَارِthe abode of القرارِpermanence
I made the heart one of Eden’s gardens,
I made the heart gardens of Eden,
Because within it you dwell in an everlasting abode.
Because you are in it, in the abode of settlement.
أَنِفْتُI disdained منof الديارِthe dwellings فَسِرتُso I journeyed منهاfrom them
لقلبٍto a heart عادَhad become مَنْamong بَعْضِsome of الديارthe dwellings
I disdained the dwellings and journeyed away from them,
I disliked the homes so I traveled from them,
To a heart that had become one of those dwellings.
To a heart that returned from some of the homes.
أَحَدْتُكِunclear as written: I … you فيكِwithin yourself واصفرَّتand grew yellow سَقَامَاfrom sickness
ديارُكِyour dwellings بالبنفسجِwith violets والبَهَارِand yellow daisies
I [verb unclear] you within yourself; and, sickly, grew yellow
I missed you in you, so your homes paled,
Your dwellings, with violets and yellow daisies.
Your homes with violets and blossoms.
