لم يبق في الليلِ سِوَى سَاعَتَينِ

لم يبق في الليلِ سِوَى سَاعَتَينِ

وقد جَرَتْ مِنْ عيْنهِ أَلفُ عَيْنِ

وقد جَرَتْ مِنْ عيْنهِ أَلفُ عَيْنِ

Only two hours remained of the night.

Only two hours left of night

And a thousand springs had flowed from his eye.

And a thousand tears streamed from his eyes

يَبْكِي عَلَى الأَلْف الذي بَيْنَه

يَبْكِي عَلَى الأَلْف الذي بَيْنَه

وبَيْنَه مع قُرْبِه أَلفُ بَيْن

وبَيْنَه مع قُرْبِه أَلفُ بَيْن

He weeps for the beloved, between whom

He cries for the thousands between him

And him, despite his nearness, lie a thousand partings.

And though so close, a thousand chasms lie
