أيَاO مَنْyou who تغرّبwent into exile بعدafter البلَىdecay
مصابُكyour calamity أَبكىmade weep فؤادِيmy heart وعَيْنيand my eye
O you who went into exile after decay,
O you who became estranged after intimacy
Your calamity made my heart and my eye weep.
Your affliction made my heart and my eyes weep
ويومُكand your day يومانِtwo days لاnot واحدٌone
بَنُوكَyour sons بهin it شَرِبُواthey drank غُصَّتَينِtwo choking draughts
And your day is two days, not one;
Your day is two days, not one
Your sons drank two choking draughts on that day.
Your sons on it drank two bitter cups
وربُّكand your Lord إِذْsince صَبَرواthey were patient للأَسىin the face of grief
سيؤتيهمُHe will grant them أَجْرَهُمْtheir reward مَرَّتَيْنِtwice
And your Lord, since they were patient in the face of grief,
And your Lord, when they were patient with grief
Will grant them their reward twice.
Will give them their reward twice over
