لاneither الغصنُthe bough يَحْكِيكِresembles you ولاnor الجُؤذُرُthe wild-ox calf
حسنُكِyour beauty مماthan what ذكرواthey described أَكثَرُgreater
Neither the bough nor the wild-ox calf resembles you.
Neither the branch narrates you, nor the roots,
Your beauty exceeds what they have described.
Your beauty is more than what they mentioned,
ياO باسماًsmiling one أَبْدَىrevealed لناto us ثَغْرُهُhis mouth
عِقْداًa necklace ولكنbut كلُّهall of it جَوْهَرُjewels
O smiling one, whose mouth has revealed to us
O one with an everlasting smile,
A necklace—but made entirely of jewels.
A necklace, though every part is a gem,
قالَhe said لِيَto me اللاَّحِيthe reproacher أَماdo you not...? تَسْمَعُyou hear
فقلتُso I said ياO لاحْreproacher أَلاَdo you not...? تُبْصِرُyou see
The reproacher said to me, 'Do you not hear?'
The critic said to me, "Do you not hear?"
So I said, 'O reproacher, do you not see?'
I said "O critic, do you not see?"
