شكر اللهُ للصيامِ فقد أَضْـ

ـحَى غَرَامِي القصيرُ فيه طَويلاَ

ـحَى غَرَامِي القصيرُ فيه طَويلاَ

May God reward fasting, for

I thank God for fasting, for it made

my short-statured love has grown tall during it.

My short passion become long in it

أَظهَرَ المِسْكَ عَنْ مَراشِفِ من أَهْـ

أَظهَرَ المِسْكَ عَنْ مَراشِفِ من أَهْـ

ـوَى وزاد الذُّبُولَ فيه ذُبُولاَ

ـوَى وزاد الذُّبُولَ فيه ذُبُولاَ

It brought forth musk from the lips of the one I

It revealed the musk from the pillows of one I love

love, and heightened his languor still further.

And increased the leanness in it to become leaner

وكسا خدُّه نُحولاً فأَضْحَى

وكسا خدُّه نُحولاً فأَضْحَى

مِثْلَ ما أَشْتَهِيهِ خَدّاً أَسِيلاَ

مِثْلَ ما أَشْتَهِيهِ خَدّاً أَسِيلاَ

And clothed his cheek in slenderness, so it became

And it clothed his cheek, becoming emaciated

just as I desire it—a smooth, slender cheek.

So it became like the cheek I desire, smooth
