I gave my kisses in advance to both sides of his neck,

As his reproach of me kept his lips occupied.

And he thinks I have quenched my thirst,

Yet I am at my thirstiest for him.

And he thinks me cruel because I embrace him so tightly,

Yet I am at my most tender toward him.

Oh, would that I knew, for the one stricken by his deed:

Who led his eyes to the beloved's eyes?
