حَمْزةُ كلبٌ يَعْوِي
يُريدُhe wants غيرَsomething other than الْهجْوِsatire
يُريدُ غيرَ الْهجْوِ
Hamza is a dog that howls;
Hamza is a dog that howls
he wants something other than satire.
Wanting nothing but to defame
فبِئْسَso how wretched مِنْof هِجَائِهlampooning him
فبِئْسَ مِنْ هِجَائِه
فالهجْوfor satire مثلُlike النَّجْوِexcrement
فالهجْو مثلُ النَّجْوِ
So wretched it is to lampoon him,
So awful is his defamation
for satire is like excrement.
For defamation is like gossip
فماso … not يُباليpays heed عِرْضُهhis honor
فما يُبالي عِرْضُه
بِكُلِّto every هجوٍsatire مَرْوِيrecited
بِكُلِّ هجوٍ مَرْوِي
So his honor pays no heed
He cares not for his dignity
to any recited satire;
With every rehearsed defamation
ولاnor يُباليcares رأْسُهhis head
ولا يُبالي رأْسُه
بضربِabout blows from أَلْفِa thousand دلْوbucket
بضربِ أَلْفِ دلْو
nor does his head care
Nor cares he for his head
about blows from a thousand buckets.
Against the blows of a thousand buckets
نريدُwe want منsomeone who يُزيلُremoves عنَّـfrom us (continued)
نريدُ من يُزيلُ عنَّـ
ـاcompletes 'from us' وجْههُhis face ويُزْوِيand turns it away
ـا وجْههُ ويُزْوِي
We want someone to remove from us
We want one who will remove from him
his face and turn it away.
His face and fold it over
نُريدwe want منsomeone who يَقْتُلkills منـfrom (continued)
نُريد من يَقْتُل منـ
ـهhim رأسَهhis head يَلْويtwists
ـه رأسَه يَلْوي
We want someone to kill him,
We want one who will kill him
wringing his head off.
And twist his neck around
نريدُwe want مَنsomeone who يطبخُcooks منsome of
نريدُ مَن يطبخُ من
أَعضائِهhis limbs ويَشْوِيand roasts
أَعضائِه ويَشْوِي
We want someone to cook some
We want one who will cook
of his limbs and roast them.
His body parts and roast them
نريدُwe want منsomeone who يَنْشُرهsaws him apart
نريدُ من يَنْشُره
وبَعْدand after هذاthis يَطْوِيfolds up
وبَعْد هذا يَطْوِي
We want someone to saw him apart,
We want one who will shred him
and after this, fold him up.
And after that fold him up
