لا تُجْرِ دمعاً على سعادِ
فإِنَّfor indeed هِجْرانهاforsaking her سَعادَةْhappiness
فإِنَّ هِجْرانها سَعادَةْ
Do not shed tears over Su'ad,
Do not shed a tear for Saad's happiness
for forsaking her is happiness.
For her abandonment is bliss
تُظهِرshe displays للعالمينto everyone خالاًa mole
تُظهِر للعالمين خالاً
أَكْسِبهاearned her منهمُfrom them زَهَادَهaversion
أَكْسِبها منهمُ زَهَادَه
She displays to everyone a mole
It shows the world a blemish
that has earned her their aversion.
Earn from them asceticism
وماand not دَرَتshe knew أَنَّthat كلَّevery خالٍmole
وما دَرَت أَنَّ كلَّ خالٍ
بِغْضَتُهhatred of it للظَّريفfor the man of taste عادهa habit
بِغْضَتُه للظَّريف عاده
