O night of rejection, do not grow short.
And O dawn, do not rise.
فإِنِّيfor I لَبِسْتُI have donned ثيابَrobes of الدُّجَىdarkness
حداداًin mourning علىfor ربَّةِthe lady of البُرْقُعthe face-veil
For I have donned the robes of darkness,
in mourning for the lady of the veil.
ولوand if كنتI were مُفْتَقِراًin need للصَّبَاحِof dawn
لغرَّقْتُI would drown لَيْلِيَmy night فيin أَدْمُعِيmy tears
And were I in need of dawn,
I would drown my night in my tears.
